Philosophy

My approach is to help students be ‘themselves’, singing and playing with healthy technique & working with materials that they really love,  I am a professional jazz singer. But I also am a ‘classical’ choir director, voice/piano teacher, comfortable with many styles. Student outcome will be having an easier time singing and playing piano than before, and moving towards potential as an artist. You are welcome to visit my websites:  davidpostnow.com and davidpostjazz.com.

Students need to bring/practicing

  1. copies of the written music and access to a sound recording of songs we are working on (I’ll make initial copies of music required, but if you bring something new in, that’s great)

  2. a pencil

  3. a recording device (a phone will do just fine)

  4. a hydrated body

  5. it is recommended to do a vocal warm up and practice the materials daily, even 15 mins

Here is the general outline of a voice lesson

00:00 checking in and doing a vocal warm up
00:12 working/relaxing on specific exercises to improve vocal technique/vocal health
00:17 working on literature
00:25 recording piano accompaniment as needed
00:30 recapitulation of what was gained at today’s lesson and going                over what can be practiced before the next lesson
00:35 lesson finishes
